Yancie

US Popularity Rank: None

Origin: American

Meaning: Yankee; Englishman; Dutch colonists

Yancie is a girl’s name of American origin. Coined by writer extraordinaire F. Scott Fitzgerald in his 1922 short story The Popular Girl, it might have been a wordplay on “Yankee,” a colloquial term for “Northerner” in the US during the Civil War. Yankee also takes on other meanings depending on the time and place. While one theory claims that it’s from a Native American word for “Englishman,” yet another theory argues that English colonists actually used it to refer to Dutch colonists. Whichever stance you take, Yancie can encourage your little one to do things that history will remember them for.
