Welsh

US Popularity Rank: None

Origin: Welsh

Meaning: Foreigner; Stranger

Believe it or not, the masculine name Welsh originates in Wales. It is more commonly known as a surname dating back to the Old English of the 8th century. It was a name adopted by the Celtic Britons. There is also the possibility Welsh came from the anglicization of the German Welsch. This is given some credence due to the fact that Welsh means "foreigner" and "stranger," which, funnily enough, are two terms that technically describe a newborn.
