US Popularity Rank: 10518

Origin: Sanskrit

Meaning: Clean, pure

Vimala is a girl’s name that means “clean” and “pure” in Sanskrit. In Hindu mythology, two powerful goddesses, Durga and Parvati, are otherwise known as Vimala. In the Indian state of Odisha, the Vimala Temple is built in her honor, and it’s considered among the holiest shrines. It is said that devotees revere the goddess more than the temple’s main deity. Even the prasad, the food and water offered to the gods and later distributed to the public as blessed items, is not considered holy, if it hasn’t been offered to the goddess first. So Vimala is a name that commands respect and will go a long way in fashioning a strong and steadfast personality in baby.
