Sydonia

US Popularity Rank: 4768

Origin: Latin

Meaning: Of Sidon

Sidonia is a melodic feminine name of Latin origin and means "from Sidon," referring to a city in ancient Phoenicia. The territory of the Phoenicians was an area that stretched the entire coast of modern Lebanon and into parts of modern Syria and Israel. To this day, Sidon, where baby takes their name, sits steadfastly as one of the largest cities in Lebanon. Little Sidonia also has links to the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament in the Book of Genesis through Sidon, the first-born son of Canaan. He was, in turn, the son of Ham, making Sidon a great-grandson of Noah. Baby can take great pride knowing Sidonia has stood the test of time.
