Suraya

US Popularity Rank: 6761

Origin: Persian

Meaning: Star cluster, the Pleiades

Suraya is a feminine name of Arabic origin and a derivation of Soraya. Both names were formed from the Persian name Thurayya, which holds the dual meanings of "star cluster" and "the Pleiades." Interestingly, Soraya changes to Suraya in Afghanistan (and Surayo in Tajikistan) for phonological reasons. Staring into the night sky, baby Suraya can dream of seeing the Pleiades open star cluster that represents Atlas and Oceanus's seven daughters. It is among the nearest star clusters to Earth and visible to the naked eye, meaning you and your little one can experience the phenomenon together.
