Solor

US Popularity Rank: None

Origin: Uncertain

Meaning: Sun

Solor is a boy’s name with uncertain origins. It most likely originates from the famous ballet La Bayadère (The Temple Dancer.) This ballet was performed for the first time in 1877 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The story is set in ancient India and follows a temple dancer, Nikiya, who falls in love with a noble warrior named Solor. Unfortunately for both, a powerful man is also in love with Nikiya and sets out to destroy their relationship. Although the meaning of Solor is uncertain, it likely derives from the Latin word sol, which means “sun.” There’s also a chain of volcanic islands in Indonesia known as the Solor Islands. With a name that recalls a beloved ballet, baby Solor will surely dance their way through life, shining bright wherever they go.
