Mandan

US Popularity Rank: None

Origin: Native American

Meaning: Native American people

Mandan is a masculine name of Native American origin. It's known most commonly as the name of a tribe in what is known today as the upper region of the Missouri River. The Indigenous people of this region are a testament to perseverance. In 1837, the Native peoples experienced a nearly detrimental bout of smallpox, as well as a fire destroying their tribe in 1861. Some historians say that the fire was the last straw, but there are still Mandan people today living in North Dakota and all over the world.
