Leaf

US Popularity Rank: 22475

Origin: Scandinavian

Meaning: Heir

You'd be forgiven for believing Leaf is a masculine name reserved only for a wild nature's child. In truth, Leaf boasts no roots in untamed woodland, coming instead from the Scandinavian Leif, which means "heir." But this does not place Leaf strictly within aristocratic circles either. At best, Leaf describes one who defies boundaries, its meaning forged from the Old Norse leifr and whose greatest namesake is the famous explorer Leifr Eiríksson. Lauded for following in his father's footsteps, Erik the Red, Leifr broke new ground as the first European to step foot on the North American continent. Time will tell what directions young Leaf will blow and the new places they may land.
