Kory

US Popularity Rank: 5229

Origin: Gaelic

Meaning: Maiden, daughter

Kory is a gender-neutral name of ancient Greek origin and is the male version of Cora, the maiden name of the goddess Persephone. The daughter of Zeus, Persephone became queen of the Underworld after her abduction and subsequent marriage to her uncle Hades, the king of the Underworld. A more modern version of the name is Kory Stamper, the lexicographer and former editor of the Merriam-Webster family of dictionaries. After retiring from her post, she authorized the book Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries in 2017. From American footballers and Gods of the Underworld to authors and ice-hockey icons, baby Kory has a wide range of stars to follow.
