Heidi

US Popularity Rank: 735

Origin: German

Meaning: Nobility, the noble one

Heidi is a girl’s name and the Swiss pet form of the Germanic Adelheid. Adelheid is derived from the words adal, “noble,” and heid, “kind, type,” which combine to form “nobility” or “the noble one.” Heidi became popular in English-speaking countries after the publication of the classic children’s story Heidi by Swiss author Johanna Spyri. The main character, Heidi, is an adventurous and fearless little girl who has forever ingrained her Alpine image into the name. The movie adaptation was released in 1937, and soon after, Heidi hit the name charts. To this day, Heidi remains a beloved name and will make a gorgeous title for baby.
