Gollum

US Popularity Rank: None

Origin: Scottish

Meaning: Of MacCallum; Son of the gillie

Though certainly most famous thanks to the long-lived creature of the JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Gollum is one half of the creature's personalities and is solely focused on keeping the ring of power in his possession. But this name is also theorized to have associations with the Jewish Golem and the have connections to the Gollom of old Scottish-Dalriadan. The Scottish connection derives from the name MacCallum, defined as "the son of the gillie of Callum." It wasn't until after the 17th century that Gollom became commonly used.
