Dariane

US Popularity Rank: 12106

Origin: Persian

Meaning: Prosperous, maintains possessions well; Sea

Dariane is a girl’s name of Persian origin. It’s the feminine form of Darius, which means “prosperous” and “maintains possessions well.” A good way to remind your little one to take care of their belongings! In modern Persian, the word daryā means “sea,” so you could also associate this name with the ocean. The martyr Saint Daria of Rome made the name popular across the world, particularly in Russia. In the 18th century, about 4% of Russian women were named Daria, though the name fell almost completely out of use by 1960. However, it had a comeback in the late 20th century, and was the third most popular girl’s name in Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2006. Variants of the name include Darija, Dariya, Derya, Darja, Daruška, Daryna, and more. Dariane is a lovely, less common variant that’s reminiscent of Marianne.
